The customer contacted us for emergency mitigation after a toilet overflow on the upper level sent water migrating down through the floorboards into the basement. This toilet back-up saturated bathroom vinyl flooring, leaked down a stairwell landing, and seeped into adjacent walk-in closet walls and main living room carpets, creating a multi-room biohazard and structural moisture threat.
We executed a comprehensive multi-stage restoration plan to sanitize and dry the property. First, we performed immediate standing water extraction on the bathroom floor and living room area rugs using a commercial-grade extraction wand. Next, we addressed the structural migration by pulling up the ruined carpet and underlay padding on the stairwell landing to expose the bare concrete slab for direct drying. In the walk-in closet, where moisture had wicked upwards into the walls, we performed a precise flood cut by removing the bottom twelve to eighteen inches of saturated drywall and insulation to expose the 2x4 wooden wall studs. This controlled demolition eliminates hidden moisture pockets and prevents microbial growth. Finally, we thoroughly applied an EPA-approved antimicrobial sanitizer to all affected areas, especially the exposed framing studs and subfloors, and deployed industrial LGR dehumidifiers and high-velocity axial air movers to establish a balanced drying environment and pull deep bound moisture out of the remaining structure.
